2020 Nurses Appreciation Week
Today is Nurse’s Day! During times like these, we are reminded of the important role our health care professionals play in caring for people in crisis. We want to extend our sincere appreciation and gratitude to all the dedicated nurses for their courage and commitment to their patients and the communities they serve.
From their life-saving skills to bringing a small sense of comfort with the cute or humorous scrubs they often wear, nurses are an essential part of our healthcare and some of the heroes we recognize now more than ever. Thank you for everything you do!
NOTE: National Nurses Day is the first day of National Nursing Week, which concludes on May 12, Florence Nightingale’s birthday. Yet the week was first observed in the US in October 1954 to mark the 100th anniversary of Nightingale’s pioneering work in Crimea.
2020 Teachers Appreciation Week
It’s once again that special time of year to shower teachers with praise and appreciation for all they do for us.
Teachers make a difference and play a pivotal role in the lives of millions of children every day. This year during these challenging times and with the abrupt end of the physical school year, teachers have had to rise to the occasion and do even more–with virtual classrooms, video chats, and home lessons–to continue educating and making sure every student has the tools they need to reach their full potential. Because of this, students will look back at the unique school year and remember the lengths to which their teachers reached out to them and attempted to restore normalcy.
While we appreciate our teachers every day, during this week, lets truly recognize their hard work, acknowledge the impact, they have on our lives, and show our gratitude for their commitment to students’ well-being and long-term success.
NOTE: National Teacher Day is observed on the first Tuesday of the first full week of May (May 5). It was first advocated for by former First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt. In 1953, she addressed Congress hoping to convince them that teachers needed a day to be recognized. At that point, some schools were already observing the day, but there wasn’t a national consensus and she wanted to make it official. Despite her best efforts, it wasn’t until 23 years later, in 1980, that National Teacher Day became official.

NOTE: Star Wars Day, May 4, celebrates George Lucas’ Star Wars.
The date was chosen for the pun on the catchphrase “May the Force be with you” as “May the Fourth be with you”. Even though the holiday was not created or declared by Lucasfilm, many Star Wars fans across the world have chosen to celebrate the holiday. It has since been embraced by Lucasfilm and parent company Disney as an annual celebration of Star Wars.
2020 Video: Artist Insights (Holiday Parade)
Keepsake Artist Tammy Haddix’s Holiday Parade rolls on this year with a little inspiration from a fellow Keepsake Artist.
Inspired by the donut Christmas tree in this 2nd in series ornament, Tammy was asked to share with us her favorite donut! She said, “How does anyone pick one favorite donut?! I have several and will rank them! First is a glazed chocolate cake donut—chocolate is always my first go-to over anything else. Second is a classic apple fritter—apple and cinnamon is a favorite flavor combination. Third would be a raspberry filled glazed donut—it is messy and fruity!”
2020 National Superhero Day
Gone are the days where being a superhero meant wearing a cape or having a superpower.
Today real-life superheroes are doctors, nurses, hospital staff, first responders, truck drivers, grocery store clerks, and ordinary people who give of themselves, perform acts of kindness, or just rise to the occasion to help others.
On this National Superheroes Day, we would like to thank all those who have transformed into everyday superheroes by being on the front lines, working long hours and fearlessly, and selflessly putting themselves at risk for the rest of us during these challenging times.

Kris had lots of sweets to help inspire this adorable miniature ornament! Kris said, “When you have two little ones in the house, you are never short on treats. We still have some Christmas stocking chocolates hidden away, but the boys have moved on to the Easter candy, so score for Mommy and Daddy on the Christmas goodies! During the holidays, I’m always up for a yummy decorated sugar cookie! It’s one of my favorite things to make and have my boys help decorate.”

Keepsake Artists Robert Chad and Joanne (Eschrich) Wright team up to create the charming, vintage style Nostalgic Santa Porcelain Ornament.
This ornament is bringing lots of smiles to Joanne and Chad right now. Chad said, “This ornament has SHINE! There’s a glaze that covers this ceramic Santa and a shiny gold on the shoes, basket and buttons. Plus, the glass-like orbs on the tree. All that shine brings a 1950s nostalgic vibe.”

Keepsake Artist Nello Williams put just the right spin on this year’s “Nellco” Rockin’ Little Record Player.
Nello has always been a sucker for a classic Christmas tune. He said, “One of my favorite Christmas songs is ‘It Came Upon a Midnight Clear.’ It’s the first Christmas song that I actually remember. We had a 45rpm record of it and I remember playing it a lot while imagining the angels bending near the earth to touch their harps of gold, (which I remember mishearing as hearts of gold).”
