Keepsake Artist Kris Gaughran relied on one of her favorite holiday traditions when crafting A Christmas Cookie Miniature Ornament.
Kris had lots of sweets to help inspire this adorable miniature ornament! Kris said, “When you have two little ones in the house, you are never short on treats. We still have some Christmas stocking chocolates hidden away, but the boys have moved on to the Easter candy, so score for Mommy and Daddy on the Christmas goodies! During the holidays, I’m always up for a yummy decorated sugar cookie! It’s one of my favorite things to make and have my boys help decorate.”

Nello has always been a sucker for a classic Christmas tune. He said, “One of my favorite Christmas songs is ‘It Came Upon a Midnight Clear.’ It’s the first Christmas song that I actually remember. We had a 45rpm record of it and I remember playing it a lot while imagining the angels bending near the earth to touch their harps of gold, (which I remember mishearing as hearts of gold).”

Matt drew inspiration from his love of coffee when crafting this miniature ornament. He said, “Coffee is a necessity! I find that when I am caffeinated, I can be more focused on my Keepsake work. Every morning I grind up coffee beans to make a fresh brew. Caffeine can also be found in hot chocolate and chocolate candy so when in a pinch, I reach for the Easter candy or fire up the kettle to make cocoa.”

NOTE: In 1970, Wisconsin Senator Gaylord Nelson and activist John McConnell separately asked Americans to join in the grassroots demonstration with the goal of raising awareness about mankind’s role in protecting our natural world. McConnell originally chose the spring equinox (March 21, 1970) and Nelson chose April 22, which ended up becoming the official celebration date. (Given that the date of the spring equinox changes over time, it could have made things more complicated to go with that date!)
On April 22, 1970, the first Earth Day, 20 million Americans ventured outdoors and protested in favor of a more eco-conscious society. Though Earth Day started out as more of a political movement, today it has become a popular day for many communities to gather together and clean up litter, plant trees, or simply reflect on the beauty of nature.
