This holiday season, the card Hallmark is sending to Keepsake Ornament Club (KOC) members has a little something special, a sneak peek of the first-in-a-series Cookie Cutter Christmas by Nina Aubé. The front of the card shows several parts of the ornaments design including the same little mouse that was featured in Sweet Snowmouse, last years KOC 25th Class Reunion event exclusive ornament. The actual ornament is shown on the back along with a few lines about the artist.

Keepsake Ornament sculptor Nina Aubé has always had a special affection for tiny animals-partly because they were the only pets allowed in the apartment she lived in as a child. From creating shadowbox scenes, to making little outfits for gerbils, to designing a candy-box automobile for a hamster, Nina was fascinated by the idea of small characters living in a big world. The Cookie Cutter Christmas series is Nina’s way of celebrating and sharing those whimsical childhood fantasies.
Cullen Brown Leaves the Studio
After serving two Summers (’09 & ’10) as a Hallmark intern and a little over a year (Aug. ’10 – Nov. ’11) as a full-time sculptor, Cullen Brown has left the Keepsake ornament studio to return to California. After getting engaged, Cullen will start a new job as a Concept Designer for Lucasfilm Animation.

KC artists partner with Salvation Army to bring The Hope Memorial” to Joplin
Hope Memorial
A group of Kansas City artists calling themselves “set apart” will dedicate a memorial to Joplin residents on Saturday.
The group, including several former and current Hallmark artists, worked to create a 7-foot by 14-foot memorial out of debris and wreckage from the May 22 tornado. The result is being called “The Hope Memorial.”
The non-profit group has been working with The Salvation Army groups in Kansas City, Joplin and St. Louis to bring the piece to Joplin.
The Hope Memorial dedication will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Joplin Family Worship Center, 5290 East 7th St.
At the event, participants will be invited to become contributing artists and leave their mark on the Memorial by contributing a written hope or prayer that will be encased in special transparent compartments built into the piece.

The KOC has shipped the second and final Local Club mailing for 2011. This mailing includes: the 2011 Local Club ornament*, which is an alternative color variation of the 2011 “Festive Santa” miniature ornament, the November issue of Collectively Speaking and the annual membership roster.
If you are a member of our club (or indicated you would like to be a member of our club) and have a current KOC membership, you can obtain this local club ornament from us by simply emailing your request to us at digitalDREAMBOOK@Gmail.com. Although these ornament are free to our members, there is a nominal fee charged to cover the cost of the packing materials used and shipping charges (actual postage) incurred. Alternatively, individuals can obtain any of the local club ornaments we have available at no cost at any Hallmark sponsored event where we are in attendance.
Please note, in addition to the 2011 Local club ornament, we also have a limited supply of the 2010 and 2009 local club ornaments available upon request.

2011 Reveal: NYCC Event-Exclusive Keepsake Ornaments
Hallmark Announces First New York Comic Con Presence
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (August 31, 2011) — Hallmark announces its first visit to New York Comic Con International at the Javits Center (Oct. 13-16), the East Coast’s biggest popular culture convention. Attendees will have access to Comic Con-exclusive Hallmark Keepsake Ornaments and receive a sneak peek of product for 2012.
During the convention, Hallmark will sell limited quantities of the following Keepsake Ornaments:
U.S.S. Defiant, STAR TREK™ – The ill-fated U.S.S. Defiant is from the third-season episode “The Tholian Web” and celebrates the 45th anniversary of the original “Star Trek” television series. Based on a 2006 Keepsake Ornament of the U.S.S. Enterprise, it features luminescent paint that allows the ornament to glow green in the dark as seen in the fan-favorite episode.
Droids R2-Q5 and R2-A3, Star Wars™ – Fans of the iconic film series will recall the black-bodied R2-Q5 being assigned to the second Death Star as the red-trimmed R2-A3 flew along with X-wing starfighter pilot Wedge Antilles. The special-edition barrel-shaped Droids will be sold as a set.
This will mark the first year that Hallmark will create convention exclusive Keepsake Ornaments for New York Comic Con. Hallmark has produced exclusive Keepsake Ornaments in recent years for events including Comic Con International, Star Wars Celebration V, the National Barbie® Doll Collectors Convention and Disney’s D23 Expo.
“We are excited to participate for the first time in New York Comic Con,” said Beth Dorr, associate product manager for Keepsake Ornaments. “The convention gives us a great opportunity to meet and interact with more of our most passionate fans who can’t travel to the West Coast and reward them with exclusive opportunities and sneak peeks.”

Attendees of the KOC 25th Class Reunion Friday night dinner were given a special edition, repainted version of the 14th in the A Pony for Christmas series as they entered the Crown Center Exhibit Hall.
