A Remarkable Collection

Picture Santa’s workshop The Night Before The Night Before Christmas. Last minute lists need to be read. Toys need to be wrapped and packed. A map for the reindeers’ flight needs to be drawn up. So much to be done!

With this scene as inspiration, Hallmark artists in the Keepsake Ornament Studio created a remarkable collection to commemorate the Keepsake Ornament Collector’s Club’s 15th Anniversary. Entitled The Night Before The Night Before Christmas, it features eleven unique pieces that bring this special story to life.

The Night Before The Night Before Christmas Collection

Although the citizens of the North Pole have prepared for Christmas Eve more times than they can count, December 23 still brings an extra burst of energy.  Soon, Santa will make his famous flight, so the remaining hours are devoted to making sure no good boy or girl is overlooked.

In the office, a special trio goes through the last-minute letters to Santa.  The elf known as Lettéra begins the process as she reads the children’s letters.  Her ability to speed-read any language has become the stuff of North Pole legend, and Mrs. Claus has come to count on her ability to quickly determine a child’s special Christmas wish.  But no matter how many sacks of mail Lettéra processes in a night, she never fails to be touched by each individual note and never forgets that each one represents the Christmas Eve dreams of a restlessly sleeping child.

Next, the address comes to Globus, the map keeper.  As deliberate as Lettéra is frantic, the unflappable Globus routes and reroutes the reindeer flight path around the earth, adding little huts and towering high-rises with each new name on Santa’s list.  He adds each new location with a professor’s intellect, but it is with a father’s heart that he double-checks his calculations to ensure no good child’s toy is left behind.

The last-minute names then come to Mrs. Claus, who lovingly scans her list of Santa’s toys to find the one which will make each child’s sleep-filled eyes sparkle with joy on Christmas morning.  This is her special gift–the ability to find the teddy bear that will become a lifelong friend, the race car that will make every finish line thrilling, the blocks that will inspire a child to ask what else she can build.

Nearby, in the wrapping room, elves scurry to find the paper and ribbon that will turn a great toy into a great present.  But because Christmas comes here, too, some gifts will stay hidden away until the residents of the North Pole exchange gifts at their own Christmas celebration.

While work continues inside, the anticipation of Christmas Eve grows outside.  When the elves slide Santa’s sleigh from the barn, its ornate runners glide smoothly, silently through the fresh North Pole snow.  Since Santa’s very first trip so long ago, this sleigh has guided him through the night, its old-fashioned lanterns flickering with the rushing wind.

Teetering right behind are seven elves carrying Santa’s heavy trunk filled with playthings made by the Old Toymaker himself.  As he makes his Christmas Eve deliveries, Santa will open his special case at the home of very good boys or girls and take out one of these gifts of love.  One of the reindeer, already dressed in his harness, almost seems to grin as he watches the leaves try to hoist the trunk aboard.

Finally, Santa Claus himself appears.  What must he be thinking as he prepares for the night he’s worked for all year?  Though he appears calm and relaxed, a tiny twinkle in his eye reveals his excitement about the fantastic flight ahead.  At last, the north wind billows through his famous red cloak, and Santa checks his watch.  It is time.

Climbing into his sleigh, he looks out on the faces of everyone gathered to wish him well.  All his happiness, all this warmth… this is the reason there will always be a North Pole.  This is why there will always be a Santa.  This is why there will always be such joyous work on the night before the night before Christmas.
