They were one of music’s most unforgettable duos. The look. The sound. The chemistry. And four simple words that became forever linked with Sonny & Cher: “I Got You Babe.”
Years later, Hallmark Keepsake Artist Sharon Visker gave the famous duo a decidedly sweeter stage—the Christmas tree. Sharon reimagined Sonny & Cher as a wonderfully retro gingerbread couple, microphones in hand and ready for the spotlight. Sonny sports his unmistakable hairstyle and colorful retro clothes, while Cher has her long dark hair, dramatic eyes, and plenty of sparkle. Press the button and the ornament plays music from “I Got You Babe,” performed by Sonny and Cher.
The design made its way through Hallmark’s development process, from Sharon’s original prototype to a produced ornament. I Got You Babe had come remarkably close to taking its place in the Keepsake line—but its anticipated debut was never to be. This ornament was canceled before it was released.
Collectors never got their chance to bring Sonny and Cher home. But now, there’s another chapter to the story. Coming directly from the personal collection of retired Hallmark Keepsake Artist Sharon Visker is her original prototype, a produced piece that was pulled prior to release, and the Product Development Checklist—all together in one bundle.
Together, they tell the story of I Got You Babe in a way no single piece could. The prototype shows where it began. The produced piece shows what it became. And the Product Development Checklist provides a fascinating glimpse into its journey through Hallmark’s development process.
And that story reaches beyond Hallmark. “I Got You Babe” has been inseparable from Sonny & Cher for generations, and Sharon gave that connection an unexpected Keepsake twist. Their unmistakable look, playful design, and signature song come together where Hallmark Keepsake history and music memorabilia meet.
Now, after all these years, I Got You Babe is finally getting its moment in the spotlight. The microphones are in hand, the song is waiting, and when the final bid is placed, Sonny and Cher will be headed home with one lucky collector for a very private performance.
The show will go on. And when those familiar opening notes begin to play, the winning bidder will be the only one who can say:
“I got you, babe.”
